HOBLIO: the Anifest Rofaza Trophy and the story behind it

Here is the trophy for Short Film Best Animation for Children awarded to my film “HOBLIO - the Path to Freedom“ by the Anifest Rofaza International Film Festival of Shkodra, Albania.

The bas-relief depicts the famous legend about a woman who was buried in the foundation of the castle of Rozafa, located on top of a hill overlooking the city of Shkodra.

It’s the story of three brothers who set about building a castle to protect the city from the Turkish invasion.
They work all day, but the walls fall down at night. Eventually, they meet a wise old man who advise them to sacrifice someone so that the walls would stand.
The brothers reluctantly decide to sacrifice one of their wives: they agree that whichever of the three women was the one to bring them lunch the next day would be buried in the wall of the castle.
They also promise not to tell their wives of this. The two older brothers, however, explain the situation to their women, while the honest youngest brother says nothing.

The next day, the brothers wait anxiously to see which woman is carrying the food. It’s Rozafa, the wife of the youngest brother. He explains to her what the deal is, that she is to be sacrificed and buried in the wall of the castle so that they could finish building it.

Rozafa accepts on condition that they must leave her right breast exposed so as to feed her newborn son, her right hand to caress him and her right foot to rock his cradle.
